PostSubject: shallow means   Fri Dec 04, 2009 1:58 am

It was an obnoxiously long day, and somehow he managed to go unseen through it all. Within the last decade he'd grown rather elusive, getting a hang of this 'nobody needs to see you' thing. Not to say there weren't numerous slip ups which Esme so kindly reminded him of that morning. That woman needed to be taught a thing or two.

Of course, he felt more important than she was even though their positions were even. She was a woman after all, and sexism even existed in their realm. It was kept hush-hush though, and rarely, in his opinion, was Esme ever looked down upon for being a woman. In fact, most people treated her with more courtesy which he personally credited to her appearance. It was rare that a pair of nice-looking breasts and a near transparent dress didn't get a woman some respect.

Presently, he was at the pet-trade area. Of course, he didn't personally have to trade a thing in exchange for a servant. Those benefits came from being important. Anyway, it was about time he replaced his last slave and intended on doing that before returning to his quarters. He had nothing predetermined in his head. It was rare to find anything very eye-catchy here, though the maintainers tried to put their most prized pets forward they always lacked in something.

Phoenixes were particularly too feisty for his liking. Their fiery appearance wasn't just skin deep more often than not, and he wasn't looking to 'break' someone. That task got old quickly. Gryphons were fairly decent, but not a breed he favored especially since Esme owned one. However, with a dragon, he could show Esme up.
Dragons were unfortunately rare to find in these slave trades, but hopefully this would be his lucky day.

He had a predetermined idea of what he wanted after all.

Why should she mind being 'put out' on a nice day like this? It sure beat the heck out of being cooped up with all of those stuck-up tight wads anyway. Her ear was red and sore again from being pulled at, but that was a feeling that she was getting used to. Almost. A hand rose to rub absent-mindedly at it as she let out an exaggerated sigh. The trainers were always cross with her and a lot of the times she couldn't understand why. Apparently she was an impertinent child. Whatever that means!

She found her gaze drifting, descending to her dirty bare feet. She wiggled her toes around contemplatively, finding the blades of grass between feet to be somehow relaxing. She didn't feel too relaxed though. The presence of her collar always seemed tighter whenever she was outside. She wanted to fly so badly. There was no set destination in mind, she just wanted to fly.

Her attention was diverted by the sudden commotion that broke out like a wildfire throughout the area. To her, it seemed like everyone suddenly lost their minds. Girls were squealing, boys were rushing, and the trainers.. well, they always looked stupid to her, regardless of what they did. She asked (more like shouted) at a passing gryphon that seemed hasty to head inside. They informed her that one of the main overseers was in the building, looking to find a new pet. Oh.

She remained in her spot, watching with an arched brow as all of her fellow pets hurried inside like a pack of animals. And they called her wild. She didn't stay this way for long though, because a trainer spotted her from a mile away and screamed something practically incoherent. She knew what they were saying though. Rolling her eyes, she reluctantly proceeded inside. They were aligning the pets according to quality, quality being who was the best of the best.

Naturally, she was set toward the back of the alignment, however, this was something she had no real complaint about.

It was nice having a bunch of people scramble at the sight of you, trying to impress you at every turn. He stood proudly at the head of the building watching as the trainers clambered to get everyone in order. He supposed the commotion would have actually been worse if he was an ordinary being and they were trying to get everyone looking impressive – at least they were being quiet for him. The noises came from scurrying footfalls..clawfalls? Hoovefalls? And things of that nature.

It was like they had an endless supply of gryphons. The front rows were littered with them. One of the guides began explaining about some of the pets in the first row and how proficient they were in blahblah, he wasn't quite listening. He was sure the fellow was going on about flights and speed, things he already knew. He didn't particularly need a skilled flier when he could take care of such on his own. Though, flying was one of the main reasons these pets were needed so it was only standard that the guy would go on about that.

His eyes scanned the rows and rows of slaves until they settled on one of the ragged-looking occupants. Her hair looked awful in comparison to the others, as did her clothes and..pretty much everything. It looked like a bath could have done her wonders. Her eyes, he found, were particularly interesting, which drew him over to her after about three minutes of continuous babble from the trainer.

"Tell me about this one." He pointed out the girl with index and middle fingers, and almost immediately noted the look of terror on the trainer's face. He even began stammering as he explained that the girl was a dragon, but unfit to be owned as of the moment. Unruly, willful, shamelessly disregarded rules..
He was going to make her cry, he suspected. Girls were bags of emotion.

His hooved feet brought him up to the young dragon and a hand took a fistful of her hair, tilting her head back enough so that he could have a good look at her face. He wasn't being forceful or jerky, but the least he could have done was taken her by the chin. "I see." He commented, sounding slightly discouraged. "You're a little spitfire?"

They weren't joking when they said that one of the highest nobles had arrived. Any higher and it would have been the emperor himself. Yui couldn't help but feel a little intimidated, but she didn't allow herself to express as much. She might have been a rare breed, but she was still a pet and a female at that. Not even among her peers was she considered anything special. The only category that she managed to fit under was 'wild'. She might as well have been feral.

Her eyes would occasionally glance at her fellow pets, but aside from that, she managed to keep her gaze fixated on the noble. She assessed him with curious eyes, acknowledging his attire, posture, even his hairstyle. She had never seen one of the main overseers before. In fact, the only nobles that she ever came in contact with were the ones that came to trade for a new pet. Obviously, she was never chosen due to the reviews the trainers offered them. The fact that she was a dragon interested them, however, that was the extent of their interest.

Surprisingly, he managed to catch a glimpse of her. She felt unnerved and apprehensive when he started to make his way over to her, but her pouty demeanor failed to be replaced. The trainer's explanation almost went unnoticed, but those fierce orange eyes managed to flicker in his direction. She was used to hearing them talk about her this way so her reaction wasn't all that emotional. After all, everything that they said was true.

She winced when her hair was seized as her gaze was once again redirected to the noble. She offered him an almost defiant look in response to his inquiry, but kept herself from saying anything too outrageous. "Only to those who deserve it.."

She didn't seem half bad at all. With the way the trainer was acting, he supposed she might attempt to shove him off. Of course, she just might have been intimidated by his presence. Only a fool wouldn't be, so this was good.

He released he hair, then bent forward. His face was uncomfortably close to hers, but he seemed at ease, staring her facial aspects over and such. Lucky for her he was back upright in less than five seconds, glancing her attire over which was adequate for a poor house, in his opinion. Still, they concealed her body quite a bit, and he couldn't tell what she was physically capable of. He could have roughed her up a bit, but managed to contain himself.

"Show me, then. Let me see your dragon form." More of a demand than a question. He would have to base his final decision on that. If she looked interesting enough, he would take her and work her until she was capable of handling impressive things for looks alone. It wasn't like she would be required to do a lot if he were to adopt her. It would be akin to owning a show dog, or something. "If you don't mind."

He granted her enough room for the transformation, taking a couple steps back. He wasn't sure how big she was in that form; looks could be deceiving, so he wasn't about to underestimate her.

She was glad when he released her hair; it was difficult to keep herself from escaping his grasp or pushing him away. She knew that that the trainers would really let her have it if she made a scene in front of the noble. Well, they always punished her for mouthing-off or generally misbehaving. However, she'd put up a fight whenever they'd do so it was like a catch-22. Besides, this was the most interest anyone had ever taken in her and she didn't want to ruin her chances of getting out of this place.

Her eyebrows furrowed when he scanned her face, but she didn't lean away. Instead, she stood quite still and allowed him to have a look at her. He was certainly weird, eyeing her like that, but he was probably like every other noble in the fact that he looked like he was examining merchandise instead of a living thing.

At his command, she couldn't help but feel a little surprised. She was almost certain that he'd lose interest with her because of her appearance. She looked like a peasant in comparison to him, well, she was a pet so she was even lower than a peasant. She didn't waste any time dawdling and proceeded to glare in the direction of the trainer that was previously giving the reviews. "You heard him!" A hand motioned to the over-sized collar that circled her neck, indicating that he better remove it. The trainer's reaction caused a smirk to stretch along her features as he trudged forward, almost reluctantly. Flipping through an enormous set of keys, the man finally came across her's which appeared new and hardly used. He warned her that she better not try anything funny and she pulled her eyelid down at him. "Just don't stand too close."

The surrounding pets scurried to the other side of the room, as did the trainer, leaving the noble standing the closest to her. When she had plenty of space and thensome, rays of light began to form at her finger-tips and toes and rose up her body until she was completely illuminated. Her glowing form morphed and coiled about the room, about as thick as a tree trunk. The light lifted up from her skin in the form of shards and dissipated into the air, leaving behind shiny, serpentine scales. Bird-like claws, a canine shaped snout, and two cord-like whiskers had appeared. Her tawny-colored hair remained and formed down the ridge of her back to form a long, trailing wisp of hair at the end of her tail. Her eyes were larger, cat-like, but they were still that same rich orange hue.

He was undaunted by the warnings; not too close? She must have been a big one afterall.

Soon enough his thoughts became reality. She was more serpentine than expected, but that wasn't bad, simply unexpected. Overall he might have seemed unimpressed, but admittedly he was, a little bit. She was probably the biggest pet they had to offer, despite how puny she looked moments ago. A couple fingers rubbed at his chin contemplatively, while a firm gaze studied her overall appearance.

Her scales were nice, as were her mane. It looked like in this form she'd be able to handle various tasks, and there were some benefits to having an agile dragon-form such as this, as opposed to the ones built like an oversized lizard-dog with an elongated neck. He ought to know, being of that strain himself.

"Alright, I've seen enough." He announced, not a minute after the drastic change. "I'll be leaving with this one." In spite of their precautions, he was undaunted by the little girl. If she proved to be a pain in the ass there were people working below him who would gladly force her into submission. He could personally do it if he had the time, but he had a lot on his plate already. Anyway, the chances of that were unlikely. He was certain the position he held was enough to draw the respect and admiration out of most people, especially the young ones.

With that announcement, he headed for the door and took for granted the girl would follow after him. It was a wonder that the trainers were always happy to accommodate him, despite the fact that he didn't provide anything for what he was taking. Ah well, it wasn't like he felt guilty, not to mention he was doing them a favor, removing this little alleged terror from their market.

Her canine-like head raised into the air in an almost prideful fashion. She was definitely proud and especially for someone who was below a commoner. Performing tasks, assignments, and other little meaningless things for those who were above them. As much as she didn't like the sound of that kind of life, she couldn't help but want to be owned. At least she'd be able to fly, burn things (possibly), and---if she was lucky enough---gone to see the incredible world of the living.

However, it didn't seem like the noble was all that impressed. Well, his demeanor dictated as much. There was only a moment or two of confusion before her doubts had faded away completely. She morphed back into a small girl, her expression bearing what she was feeling: astonishment. He was taking her?! The trainer looked baffled, glancing between the dragon and the noble as he headed for the exit. He spluttered and stammered about whether or not he should reconsider. About how there were plenty of better, more experienced pets that were ready to be owned.

However, his words seemed to have little to no effect. Yui sped after her new owner, much like a puppy would. When she reached him, she walked at his side as opposed to behind him. This probably had to do with her pride, but depending on whether or not the noble treated her, it would be short-lived or permanent.

She wanted to ask him why he picked her, but she was almost afraid of how he'd respond to that. "You must be tired of gryphons, huh?"

His footfalls came to a half prior to exiting the establishment. His attention was turned towards the trainer rather than the little girl who asked him..something. "I heard you the first time. Don't make the mistake of underestimating me." Was all he said in regards to the man's blabbing. He was perfectly capable of handling this child.

Though he would have liked it if she came with some sort of restraints.

Anyway, he continued onward with crossed arms. He didn't actually intend on walking all the way back to his quarters. That would take a small eternity, to him anyway. He was lazy, rarely taking the time to walk anywhere or 'enjoy the view'. It all looked the same, and it was all very dull. He just wanted to get where he was going and be done with it. "You said something about gryphons."

He glanced down at the seemingly young-girl. The more he looked at her the more he wanted to scrub her down, he certainly couldn't parade her in front of Esme when she looked like she'd just come out of a hole in the ground. "They're fickle and not nearly as valuable as a dragon, don't you agree?" Of course, most people would argue that they were the same; all the pets technically were equal, they simply varied in what they could do. Dragons could breathe fire, for example, while gryphons..
..well, surely they could do something.

"This will be your first and last ride." He informed her, suddenly picking her up under an arm as one would with a football. He bent his knees and pushed up from the ground, spreading his wings and taking off. "Once we arrive you'll need a bath. I don't care what you do after that." He informed her, soaring towards the highest peak of Sheol.

She could have laughed with amusement at how the noble responded to the trainer, but they were off again before she could make a big deal out of something so trivial. It was probably a good thing.

Her thin, tanned arms rose and crossed behind her head as they exited the establishment. She arched an eyebrow at the noble when he finally responded to her dumb comment. It didn't really sound like he had heard her and she was prepared to yell it out this time just in case he had a hearing problem before he added to his previous thought. A toothy grin appeared on her face as she let out a laugh. "HA! You couldn't be more right!" Those arms that were crossed at the back of her head moved to her chest. "Gryphons are so retarded. I heard one of them nearly killed one of the nobles today by running into a building. You'd think they'd know how to fly before givin' someone a ride, you know?!"

She nodded at him, expecting him to agree. She didn't really know all of the details, but it didn't occur to her that the noble might already know about this. She talked before thinking a lot of the time. However before she could add any more to her thoughts, she was taken by the waist. She wasn't really expecting it, so she let out an uncharacteristic squeak as they leaped into the air. She stared at the ground with wide eyes after first, but the feeling of flying caused a smile to spread across her face. She didn't even hear his comment about this being the last time this would happen.

"..A bath?!" She repeated, sounding like he was asking her to do something awful. Despite this, she didn bother to take her eyes off the scenery beneath them. Everything was getting noticeably..nicer as they soared for the top layer of the city.

He only spoke again once they reached his bedroom window. He ducked inside, hopped onto the floor and pretty much released her from his grasp..and not at all gradually. "Yes, a bath, you're filthy and you won't be roaming about covered in filth."

He took the initiative to walk to the exit/entrance of his room, which was elaborately decorated with all sorts of horrible, gaudy, clashing designs. There were rugs hanging on the walls and tacky room decorations were all over the place. All the pillows were mismatched and he stole more than a few lamps from Earth. "We have a reputation to uphold, you realize this?" He was acting like she was being completely defiant, protesting the idea of a bath with all she had. "Come."

He would have just headed into an open window closest to the bathroom, but his window was the only one he'd seen open..which was intentional. He knew he'd return by flight, but he didn't know he'd be returning with a filthy child-dragon. "You're going to need new clothes too, why didn't you come with any?" He glanced over his shoulder expectantly.

"I'm going to complain."

She was dropped unto the floor, but she quickly scrambled to her feet and acted like nothing had happened. She made a face at his comment concerning her hygiene. Yes, she was pretty filthy, but she didn't considered herself that way at all. It was uncommon for a girl to be against something like a bath, but then again, she wasn't like other girls.

She made a noise of disapproval and crossed her arms at her chest. Of course, she wasn't going to argue with the noble (as much as she wanted to). She knew that it was important to 'behave' now that she was newly adopted and whatnot or else he might bring her back to the shelter place and pick up a dumb gryphon. That would have grated her nerves to no end.

"Alright, alright." She said, glancing off to the side. It was then that she took in the decor of the room. It was certainly cluttered, but she didn't understand the concept of 'tacky' really. She just thought it looked fancy. Her gaze eventually settled on the noble again, arching an eyebrow at his inquiry. "I got the clothes I have on?" She announced as if that weren't obvious. She had rags, that's it.

She didn't understand what he had to complain about, but she didn't bother asking. Instead, she followed after the noble with her arms still crossed.

"That's the problem." He turned his attention back to the hall in front of him, which he led her down. "You only came with that thing. It looks like a cloth, one you wipe tables down with. Is that what it is?" He was being awfully harsh, and at this rate she might never take to him..but of course he wasn't sympathizing with her at this point. "The guards will have to find you something decent to wear. I'd suggest they pick something from Esme's hoard of dresses but you haven't the height or breasts." He said this all very casually, like it was entirely appropriate. He was also acting like Esme's stash of gowns could be doled out to whoever was in need at the time. Seeing as they belonged to a noble, even something as simple as clothing should have been regarded highly.

It was a bit of a walk, but eventually they reached the bathroom where one heavyset guard was standing, the exact opposite to his left. "This child needs a bath." He informed the guards, who were at first surprised to see him being followed by a puny little girl. Obviously it took a moment for the pair to realize this was a new pet of his. "And don't let her wear that thing anymore. It's like a sack. Find her something else." His demands were met with 'yes sir''s and 'of course, sir's..things of that description.
"You'll bring her to my room once she's dry." Was the last of his demands.

His presence was unnecessary now, so he took his leave. The girl's thin, seemingly frail forearm was taken by the larger guard, and a set of oversized doors opened to reveal a large bath house. The tub itself must have occupied half the room.

His blunt comments concerning her attire were only met with a roll of her eyes. Nobles were sure uppity; at least she had something to wear, right? It took her a minute to realize just who 'Esme' was, seeing as how she had never seen any of the elites before (aside from today). She was required to learn all of their names and positions should they ever stop by the pet center to trade/adopt any of them. At the time, she thought that was nothing but a waste of brain power. Now, well, at least she knew Esme was the beautiful and authoritative female.

"What, do you like her or something?" She asked in a sassy tone of voice, making up for his comments about her lack of breasts. It was easier to act like a boy without stupid jugs anyway.

When they arrived at the area where the guard was standing, she glanced around with suddenly uneasy eyes. She had had bad experiences with guards in the past and she didn't like them at all. Before she could reply with another sassy comment, she was grabbed by the forearm and yanked into the bathhouse. Now that the noble was out of sight, she started squirming around like a water-fearing feline. More help was sent for as well as a horde of women to help 'doll her up' once she was clean.

This was going to be a long evening.

"Don't be retarded." He nearly barked at the little girl's inquiry. Where would she get that idea from, just because he mentioned her clothes?! He glared back at her before continuing on his way. He knew what he was getting into, those trainers told him all about it, so he was anticipating some particularly annoying situations with that little dragon.

For now, at least, she was out of his hair. People would look after her 24/7 if he asked, and if it were necessary at some point he'd just do that. Some of his guards somehow enjoyed dealing with bratty kids..well, kids in general. Bratty ones made no difference. Though they were sort of obliged to feel that way.

He retired to his room for the time being, removing his jacket and setting it on the foot of his bed and crawling in for some rest. It would inevitably be disrupted whenever his pet was returned to him, but that was something to worry about later. She would just be forced to sleep as well, assuming she would be all clean and have something nice to wear.

..well, she really only had to be clean.

She didn't hear the noble's retort, but it probably didn't matter. She was most likely going to tease him about that again and he'd probably say the same thing. Anyway, she was forced into enormous bath tub that was filled to the brim with steaming water. She squirmed and slapped at the arms that restrained her while another proceeded to pull at the burlap sack that she used for a dress. She was surely putting up quite a fight, splashing the guards so their hair/fur/armor was sopping with soapy water. However, they didn't proceed to hit or otherwise punish her for making a fuss. The noble didn't 'okay' something like that and she was likely to bruise.

When the horde of women arrived, the guards thankfully relinquished the girl to their care, but that didn't really change her temperament. She was still thrashing about as they proceeded to wash her hair and skin with scented oils and perfumes. She smelled like something akin to a barn before. Once the women finished washing her, they pulled her out of the water and proceeded to dry her off. She wasn't squirming about as ferociously now that she was out of the water, but she didn't look pretty annoyed.

She was promptly dressed a simple, yet elegant white gown that reached to her ankles. The sleeves were a little longer than expected, but overall, it was ten times better than the rags she was wearing before. Her hair was then brushed and decorated. When everything was said and done, she looked like a proper young lady.

Now that she was cleaned and groomed, she was carted off to the noble's room. One of the women that helped 'beautify' her announced her arrival and pushed her inside. Yui glanced around the room before her eyes fell on the noble himself. She felt stupid.

In the time it took them to wash, dry and clothe his new pet, he fell asleep. It only took a few seconds for it to happen, resting nude on his sheets as if he wasn't expecting company. At least his lower half was furred..for the time being. He wasn't a heavy sleeper – well, he could be, but generally he was woken up easily. So when a woman announced that his pet was here, he sat up on and elbow and glanced tiredly towards the door.

He grinned stupidly, a hand idly toying with the back of his hair. "Now, don't you look lovely." It might have sounded sarcastic, but he meant it..then proceeded to yawn obnoxiously and wipe the slight traces of drool from his lower lip. "Come here, now..what is your name? You even smell important." His nose wrinkled as if he smelt shit, but it was quit the opposite as he took her flowery scent in.

"You need to sleep so I can parade you around in front of Esme. You'll look embarrassing if you don't get enough sleep. She has a little boy for a pet, you'll probably enjoy him. He's a little gryphon. You need to show him up." He knew she wasn't very fond of gryphons because she was mouthing off about them earlier on. Despite being tired, he remembered as much.

She couldn't help but frown at his compliment. "I look stupid." She announced as she glanced down at her feminine gown. His statement did sound a little sarcastic to her, but just in case it wasn't, she stated how she truly felt about it. She had been dressed in rags for so long that she sort of liked how they looked; she was convinced that they suited her better than a flowy dress with long sleeves and silk lining. What kind of pansies wore stuff like this anyway?

Her gaze found the noble again and bearing slightly reluctant look, she approached him when he called for her. "Yui." She had only realized then that this was the first time she had said her name. The only explanation would be that he hadn't asked her for it, hence her next statement. "I know yours already, so you don't have to say it." She wasn't aware if he knew this already, but it was sort of obvious. Who wouldn't know him? She stopped at the edge of the bed and proceeded to scan it over. For some reason, she didn't think she was allowed on it.

A smirk appeared on the corner of her mouth as he mentioned Esme again. She was about to tease him again when he mentioned that she owned a gryphon. She made a face as if something smelled, but that smirk didn't fade from her features for long. "That'll be easy." Showing up a gryphon, that is.

"You look stupid because you are a child. All children look like you." He watched as she approached the bed, flaring his nostrils a bit at her perfumey smell. She sort of smelt like him after a bath, but with a little more punch.

"Yui? That's simple enough. I won't have to rename you." He didn't understand why she didn't just hop on, unless she was disinclined because of, well, him being there. He reached over to grab her forearm and pretty much jerked her onto the bed. It didn't occur to him that she was hesitant because of to whom the bed belonged, despite how egotistical he seemed. With her on the bed, he pulled her awkwardly close, setting his arm around her and molding against her as if she were a teddy bear. It might have seemed uncharacteristic, but what did she have to complain about? Who would have a problem with a noble practically cuddling with them? Only a retard.

"Don't be annoying and move all around. If you make a puddle from either end I won't be pleased."

He had just complimented her and now he was insulting her? Perhaps his initial praise was sarcasm after all. She frowned in response to his comment and crossed her arms at her chest. "It'll be different when I'm big." Well, big as in grown-up. She didn't know what she'd look like when she was fully-grown, but she established a notion that she'd be more 'respected'. Grown-ups were respected, whether they were a pet or not. That's what she believed anyway.

She wasn't expecting to be pulled onto the bed and her body somewhat stiffened as the noble..cuddled with her? She certainly felt weird like this. Did Othello always treat his pets like this? He probably was more comfortable with her now that she smelled like a peony. Naturally, she didn't struggle or attempt to wrench herself out of his grasp. She just laid there. There was one thing that was at least somewhat nice about this though. She never laid on a bed before and especially one this luxurious.

"I'm not a baby." Puddles, jeez. She rolled her eyes and glanced at the ceiling. She wondered how being owned by this guy was going to pan out. He'd probably get tired of her real quick.
